Additional resources for
My Archaeology Book

Greetings from Augustion 11 years oldGreetings from Augustion 7 years oldMy Archaeology Book, or MAB, is an activity workbook that combines creativity, fun and learning. Alongside young Augustin, a curious and courageous boy, children meet Alex and Lisa, two friendly archaeologists who will lead them to discover archaeology and French heritage. Each drawing illustrates a situation that Alex and Lisa might encounter at work. Depending on the age of the child and the workbook, children follow easy-to-understand symbols in order to experiment with activities such as coloring, drawing, observation games, riddles and reading in order to see the world through an archaeologist’s eyes. Alone, with family, at school or just for fun, children expand their knowledge and gain skills, all while having fun.

On this section, you will find additional resources: color photos of archaeological documents that inspired My Archaeology Book, additional teaching documents (flip-book, websites, suggestions for classroom use, edutainement, etc.) and information on upcoming publications. Each page will be updated over time.

A. How can My Archaeology Book be effectively tailored to suit different age groups?

If you use My Archaeology Book for 5- to 8-year-olds, these are the activity options available to you (by age level):

Level 1. 4- and 5-year-olds

Your assignment is to carefully color inside the large outer lines of the pictures.
You can also describe to an older sibling or friend or an adult what you see in the pictures and ask them questions.

Level 2. 5- to 7-year-olds

In addition to coloring, you are tasked with identifying the clues about the steps and the page title to understand what situation is being described.
For example, there are a total of four clues in step 2.4 - Locate an archaeological site: aerial surveys (step 4.3 in the previous edition): a plane, an eagle, a camera and a circle of trees.
The clues and their meanings are or will be explained in detail further down or next on each resources pages.

Level 3. 7- and 8-year-olds

In addition to the activities mentioned above, you can complete the tasks suggested by the symbols at the bottom of your workbook pages. Some are challenging, but you can try anyway or wait to be able to reach level 4.

Level 4. 8- to 10-year-olds

If you use My Archaeology Book for 5- to 8-year-olds, you can do any of the tasks mentioned above, and you can also:

  • identify the shape in step 2.4 (step 4.3 in the 1st edition)
  • complete the field survey in step 5.3
  • infer how the object in step 6.1 was used
  • find the chaîne opératoire in step 6.5, correcting order of the images
  • solve the puzzle in step 7.1

If you use My Archaeology Book 8 and up, you can still use the drawings for coloring, whether to be scientifically accurate or to show your creative side, but your main goal should be tackling activities like arrow crosswords, word searches, mazes, riddles and observation games.

Level 5. 11- to 16-year-olds

Use My Archaeology Book 8 and up, which is made for young readers and which includes riddles. You can still use the drawings for coloring, whether to be scientifically accurate or to show your creative side. However, due to your maturity, our team of archaeologists is relying on you to also carry out different assignments with augmented reality technology to discover your archaeologist workbook on a smartphone or tablet.

The situations in My Archaeology Book have been illustrated from a mainly European heritage. Each situation present a real one. By clicking on the buttons corresponding to each step, you will find additional informations to learn more about each situation from the workbook issue 1 and 2.
